About Drop¥PS
Drop¥PS (ÒDPSÓ) is a utility to send text files containing PostScriptª
code to any PostScript printer connected to an AppleTalkª network. To
send a file, folder full of files, or disk full of files, simply drop it
onto the DPS application or an alias to the application. You can also
drop multiple files, folders, or disks at once.
(DPS can also download EPSF-format files.)
DPS does its work independently of any installed printer drivers, so you
donÕt need to have the LaserWriter driver installed. DPS is System 7-
compatible, 32-bit clean, and 68040- and Power Macintosh-compatible.
When you run DPS for the first time, it will ask you to choose a
printer. Thereafter, items that you drop onto DPS will be downloaded to
that printer. (The name and zone of the currently selected printer are
displayed in the window that DPS opens up when you launch it without any
documents.) You can change the printer by using the ÒPreferences...Ó
command from the File menu. DPS remembers your choice across launches.
In the Preferences dialog, you can determine whether Drop¥PS prepends a
PostScript title header (version 2.0), and whether the settings are
stored within the Drop¥PS application itself, or in a separate
preferences file. (Storing settings in the Drop¥PS application can be
useful if you would like to set up multiple copies of DPS, with each one
set to send to a different printer.)
Drop¥PS was written by Rich Siegel, with assistance from Leonard
Rosenthol and several others.
Drop¥PS is freeware. You may not re-distribute Drop¥PS as part of a

Update Notes
------ -----
version 1.1.4
- updated contact information in About box and documentation
- now uses embedded PAP client code.
Version 1.1.3
- Fixed bug which prevented Drop*PS from seeing printers in
zones other than the default one.
Version 1.1.2
- Cured 64-printer limit on the number of printers shown in
the device-chooser dialog; the new limit is 512.
- DPS no longer remembers the numeric network ID of the printer,
which should resolve timeouts which would occur on busy networks
when the printer was restarted between invocations of DPS.
Version 1.1.1
- Fixed bug in which error alert would appear offscreen, leading
the user to believe that DPS was hung.
Version 1.1
- added ability to download EPSF files.
- extended Preferences to support saving within DPS itself,
and to provide for prepending PostScript title information.
- made internal changes which make it easier to use DPS as
a scriptable component.
- fixed deviant behavior that would occur if the selected
printer became unavailable.
